The Government of Canada is investing to develop recreational tourism in Gaspésie

The L’Anse-à-Valleau Local Development Committee receives over $170,000 financial assistance from CED to enhance the activities offered at the Pointe-à-la-Renommée Historic Site (Fame Point).

Supporting the tourism industry contributes to the economic development of of Quebec Regions. This is why the Honorable Diane Lebouthillier, MNA for Gaspésie–Les Îles-de-la-Madeleine and Minister of National Revenue, on behalf of the Honorable Pascale St-Onge, Minister of Sports and Minister responsible for CED, is announcing today today a non-refundable contribution of $172,767 to the L’Anse-à-Valleau Local Development Committee for the opening of new interactive exhibits at the Pointe-à-la-Renommée Historic Site.

This support from CED, granted under the Quebec Economic Development Program (PDEQ), enabled the Committee to digitize its exhibitions in order to offer visitors bilingual, contactless digital tours accessible in the spring and fall in more of the summer season. This project will allow the organization to mitigate the effects of the labor shortage that has been raging for several years, while offering regional tourist activities that maintain social distancing.

The Local Development Committee of L’Anse-à-Valleau is an NPO that was created in 1993. Its mission is to bring life to the historic site of Pointe-à-la-Renommée in order to enhance the economic, tourist, village social, and cultural development.

A key contributor to the Canadian economy, the tourism sector has been hit hard by the health crisis. Since the beginning of the pandemic, the government of Canada has implemented various measures to help businesses suffering the impacts of COVID-19. The Tourism Relief Fund was created specifically to help organizations and businesses in the tourism sector offer innovative products and services to visitors and prepare to welcome international travelers back.
